Look at what we will be learning in Term 1

Welcome to Primary 5, Room 8 with Mrs Malton.

I am so excited to be working with you all and know that we are going to have a fantastic year.

Already, we have started our whole class reward scheme for Primary 5. We created guidelines together to keep us safe, happy, and healthy in class and to help make sure Room 8 is an enjoyable place to be. We work with our table partners to earn group points and have the opportunity to impress our classmates each week when the Four Capacity awards and Star of the Week are announced. Recently, we have also started ‘Secret Student’ so we ALL have to try our best ALL day in case our photo is inside the secret envelope. Of course, ‘points mean prizes’, which we have also chosen lots of as a class.

To explore our rights as children, we have made our class charter which we will be added to our class team and on the school’s website. We found the discussion about our rights challenging, particularly knowing that not all children are given access to them. Rights of the Child are so important, and we will continue to explore these throughout Primary 5, linking our learning where possible.

Our first topic for Primary 5 is ‘Wonder’ which we will explore through our class novel, ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio. This topic will focus on resilience, developing a growth mindset and celebrating our differences and what makes us unique.

P.E. days this year are Tuesday and Wednesday, and we can come to school in our P.E. kit on these days.

Mrs Baptie will teach us Science and Expressive Arts this year and Miss Smith, Mr Kettle, Miss McLeod AND Mrs Sime will all help us with our learning in class!

It’s a fun time to be a Primary 5 at Tulloch Primary School!
