P2 Rm4 Ms Robb
We have had a great start to Primary 2 in Room 4, re-establishing old friendships, building new ones, and exploring our new class and routines. We have discussed how our school values of Ready, Respect and Safe and our school moto of Courage and Compassion look in our classroom and have created our Class Charter focusing on the following agreed articles from the UN Convention on The Rights of The Child (UNCRC):
- Article 12 (respect for the views of the child) Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.
- Article 29 (goals of education) Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
In Term 1, our context for learning topic is “The World of Work”, allowing us to learn about different people who help us in our community. We will also be finding out about the skills needed for the different jobs. We are looking for some adult volunteers to talk about their jobs with our class. Please get in touch if you are able to help out!
We are also exploring our feelings and how to support and build our inner strength and mental wellbeing through the Resilience Alphabet in Health and Wellbeing.
In P.E we are learning how to work co-operatively and play safely during team games. We are also very excited to have the opportunity to have a weekly session with Leigh (PKC Play Development Officer) to explore new team games.
For Literacy we are continuing to develop our knowledge of phonemes and how to blend the sounds to read and spell words. We will be identifying our personal targets from our class listening ladder and practise these when sharing opinions and ideas during discussions.
During Numeracy we are enjoying using different resources such as Numicon to explore matching amounts to number digits, comparing quantities, counting on and back, place value and addition facts. We will also be looking at numbers around us and how they are used in the world of work.
And finally, to top it all… we have class pets! Please meet Daisy and Nugget. We have had great fun learning how to look after stick insects and reading our stories to them.
A busy and fun-filled Term 1!
