Look at what we will be learning in Term 1

It has been an exciting start to our year in Primary 1! I am so happy to welcome all the boys and girls in Room 2 and I know we are going to have a fantastic year!

This term we are exploring more about ‘People who help us’ at home, at school and in a wider community. We had lots of fun finding out more about the service workers who keep our community safe.

We are quickly learning how to follow class and school rules and how to be Ready, Respectful and Safe at all times. As a whole class, we work as a team to collect googly eyes and earn extra rewards.

Throughout the week, we work hard, show good listening and keep our stations tidy to collect points and become the table of the week! We also have an opportunity collect individual stickers to build our own rainbow and earn rewards from Miss Kaniewska's treasure box!

Together we have made up a Class Charter to mark and celebrate the Rights of the Child. Our Tulloch Tiger Rory will help us remember how important it is to respect our own rights and rights of others.

We have been working hard on our numbers, through different activities we are practising number formation, number recognition and we are beginning to count up and down. We use cubes, Numicon, number lines and number fans to support our learning.

We have embarked on our phonics journey, and we are learning two new sounds every week! We enjoy singing a song and performing an action associated with every sound, and we are working extremely hard to practise our letter formation. We are becoming experts in recognising the characters in our book and have lots of fun discussing what is happening in different stories.

This term, through a whole class discussion and sharing ideas, we are exploring emotions, we are learning how to identify them, name them and find the best strategies to help us when we are sad or upset.

Mrs Watt will teach us more about Science and Expressive Arts and this term she has prepared lots of exciting music lessons! Mr McCall, Mrs Ritchie, Mrs Robertson and Mrs O’Donnell are all supporting us in following the classroom routines and helping us in our learning.

We are looking forward to all the new experiences awaiting us in the first term of Primary 1!
