Look at what we will be learning in Term 1

WOW! What a start to Primary 1! The boys and girls have settled in wonderfully and are enjoying the start of their school journey. They have enjoyed exploring the learning areas in the classroom and making new friends!

In Primary 1, our context for learning is “People Who Help Us”. We will focus on people who can help us when we are at home, in school and out and about in the community. There might be some surprise visits dotted throughout the term for the boys and girls to learn from and enjoy.

We chose to create a class charter with the help of our Tulloch Tiger, Rory. We used our handprints to create our own Room 1 Rory to help us remember our rights:

Article 8 – We have the right to have an identity.

Article 28 – We have the right to an education.

Article 29 – We have the right to develop our talents and abilities to the full.

Article 31 - We have the right to relax and take part in a wide range of activities.

We have been busy learning numbers 0, 1, 2 and 3 with a focus of writing the number correctly, counting out the correct number of objects and matching them to the digit and word.  Throughout the term we will continue with numbers 4 and 5 and then begin ordering 0-5. We will then explore adding on 1 and 2 up to 5.

The boys and girls have been superstars learning their sounds. We have learned a, t, s and i. They are trying incredibly hard to write their sound. We have enjoyed exploring the ORT characters we see in our reading books and discussing what is happening in the pictures.

Our Health and Wellbeing focus this term is emotions. We will take part in a circle time each week to discuss a different emotion and what we can do when we feel a certain way.  During P.E we will learn games we can play in the playground and take part in activities to improve our Gross Motor Skills.

We are excited for a jampacked Term 1, and we cannot wait to welcome you to our classroom next Monday!
